Amazon.com’s Prime Day sale will take place on June 21-22 as the company tries to get its big summer sale on schedule after postponing it last year due to the pandemic.

Amazon has informed employees of the dates and asked them to keep the information confidential until an official announcement in the next few days. The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The world’s largest online retailer is using the annual event to increase sales and attract and retain subscribers to its Prime service, which allows users to enjoy the best and earliest discounts. Amazon has traditionally hosted the event in July, but pushed it back until October of last year. He had previously announced that Prime Day would take place in June of this year, without disclosing the exact dates.

Amazon Prime Day dates are important in the retail industry, as competitors often schedule competing sales to capitalize on the big promotion and get shoppers to explore their offerings if the Amazon event disappoints. Amazon’s first Prime Day was in 2015 and it has since grown into a two-day sales blitz, allowing Amazon to process more transactions. Sudden surges in demand have historically strained its warehousing and delivery capacity.

Amazon is suspending Prime Day in Canada and India over concerns about the spread of COVID-19.
