Fraudster arrested for selling fake Balenciaga sneakers on the internet

A Cheshire fraudster has pleaded guilty after attempting to whip up countless counterfeit branded products on the internet.

Cheshire East Council Trade Standards Officers were successful in securing a prosecution against Tanya Fletcher, of McNeill Avenue in Crewe, who appeared before South Cheshire Magistrates in Crewe on May 18, charged with Fraud offenses and Trademarks Act.

Fletcher’s rogue trade was discovered by the council’s trade standards team after spotting advertisements for expensive designer clothes at discount prices on his social media account.

The items included pairs of fake Balenciaga sneakers, sold for £ 500, sold for just £ 30.

She also advertised counterfeit Gym King, North Face and Adidas brand tracksuits, as well as several other fake designer brand products.

Other fake brands included Moncler, Hugo Boss, Ted Baker, Calvin Klein, Ugg, Nike, Armani and Converse.

The 35-year-old has pleaded guilty to selling fake branded products and operating a fraudulent business. Her lawyer told the court that she believed it would be obvious to customers that the goods were not genuine.

The fraudster was given a conditional discharge for 18 months, ordered to pay £ 250 in costs, with a victim fine surcharge of £ 20.

Councilor Mick Warren, chairman of the Cheshire East Communities and Environment Council, later said: “Selling or attempting to sell fake designer products in this manner is a fraud to the public and to the manufacturers, everything by also harming retailers of genuine branded products.

“This sends a message that our negotiating standards team is always vigilant and will take legal action in these circumstances.”
